:postit: It was brought to my attention that there already is a script that does a similar thing. It's TransW00T by `dancewiththesky
So whoever find this interesting, might as well check that script also.

:star: Intro
I believe that language shouldn't be a barrier for art sharing.
Have you ever found yourself staring at some foreign language comment here on dA, having no clue what it says, but desperately trying to figure it out?
Well, have no fear sayWhat is here to chase your worries away!
...kind of...

:star: What's this?
It's just a little something that crossed my mind while I was commenting on a deviation by ~GoranCaBuhOcTojuh.
It's a greaseMonkey script that adds a small translate button on each comment here on deviantART. It uses the Google Ajax Language API to translate the comment from number of different languages to English (google does cross-translation, but this script currently translates only to English). It's not perfect, but it'll help you understand at least what the comment is generally all about. Neat.

:star: Ok I want to try it. How do I install it?
In order to use it, you must be using Mozilla or Mozilla Firefox, and you must have the Greasemonkey extension installed.
Next, click the
INSTALL SCRIPT
to install the script and a greaseMonkey script installation window will open. To install the script press the "Install" button.
A little translate button will be added on each comment, right above the "reply" button. And that's it. You're ready to go. :)

:star: How do I use it?
It cannot be simpler. You click the button, wait for the google server to respond, and the translation will magically appear where the old comment was. If you want to see the old comment again, just press the button again.

I hope you'll find this little script useful.
Cheers.

:star: To do
:bulletred: It doesn't work in messageCenter
:bulletred: Implement the same functionality for journals, news etc.
:bulletred: Implement other languages than English.
:bulletred: Implement the live translation of the comment that you're writing to other languages

It doesn't work in Firefox 8.0 with Greasemonkey 0.9.13.beta1. Too bad, i was really looking forward to using this script.

Yeah, each Firefox version breaks many of the GM scripts, so I stopped writing new scripts and updating old ones. Sorry.

Would it work if I use Chrome, and have the TamperMonkey add-on?

I do commissions. Stories only, thank you.

This would be great if it also works in Google Chrome!! :excited:

This comment is a natural product. Slight variations in grammar, conception and spelling are to be expected and in no way diminish the intent of the message.

Agreed, but I took this comment to mean it was impossible :hmm:

I've featured this as Daily Feature on the front page of #deviantART-Related

#deviantART-Related is the unofficial group for the dA related gallery, and our Daily Feature is a private initiative to serve as an alternative to DDs while there's no GM for the gallery :)

We featured your piece for today with the following description;
dA is home to deviants all over the world, many of whom want to speak their own language on dA. On the other hand mutual understanding is vital for the community. sayWhat? by #ArtBIT solves this problem by translating foreign language comments to English, making them accessible to anyone. The script is a few years old but still works like a charm.

Thanks so much! :)

I have to test these scripts and see if they need tweaking... I haven't used Firefox in a while...

...I have no idea what collection I just put this in because my browser was being odd :slow: So don't be surprised if I added this to a cartoons collection or something :giggle:
