DeviantArtist Questionnaire

Journal Entry: Mon Aug 10, 2015, 5:19 AM

  • How long have you been on DeviantArt?

        10 years

  • What does your username mean?

I tend to drift between traditional and digital art, I also like generative art, and programming in general. My username is just the combination of the two ART + BIT. It also kind of sounds like "heartbeat", and art and computers is what I live for, what my heart beats for.

  • Describe yourself in three words.

        Imaginator par excellence

  • Are you left or right handed?

        Right handed

  • What was your first deviation?

        In the depths by ArtBIT

  • What is your favourite type of art to create?

        Digital, interactive

  • If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?

        Expressionism

  • What was your first favourite?

a day without rain by ssilence

  • What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?

        Photography and illustration

  • Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?

        I can't name just one. I like betteo's work, but also  ABrito's, torvenius's, Mihai82000's, and theirison's only to name a few.

  • If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?

I am yet to meet Stanley (starvingartist) :)

  • How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?

My first ever watcher ktgodstgarden, is the one who first encouraged me to submit more art, which led to me creating more art, getting to interact with more people on the site, and eventually DeviantArt becoming the huge portion of my life, as it is today. I hope life is treating you well ktgodstgarden :manhug:

  • What are your preferred tools to create art?

        Pencil / Gimp / Inkscape / Code

  • What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?

For me, it's not the place, it's the state of mind. Once my emotional thresholds are overpassed, I channel them into art.

  • What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?

I've had many fond memories related to DeviantArt, but almost all of them are related to meeting the wonderful people of DeviantArt, be it DevMeets or visiting the dAHQ. One of my favourite memories was in Paris, in 2012, a DevMeet organized by the lovely SaTaNiA and ZeldaDreams (thank you guys!). I've met some amazing deviants there, and I've had an unforgettable time!
 :community:
My favourite work-related DeviantArt memory was the first (unofficial) dT off-site, in Brussellex 2008, where I've first met randomduck, Pachunka, mccann, spyed, eriemer, mhalpert, dionyziz and agorf. The passion and love that these guys have for the site is unparalleled. I am so happy to have had the chance of meeting them and working with them.

Dear ArtBIT,

It's been recently brought to my attention that the Premium membership has been changed to Core membership. I don't support this, and I hope to tell you this in a calm, mature manner.

First off, it is very expensive, and a rip-off. $50 per year? I'm sorry, but who's going to buy into that? Premium - I'm sorry, I meant Core - really isn't worth that. Just two years of Core is one hundred bucks gone. You could buy a homeless person months of food with that; even years. It could buy a poor person in Africa a house, a living. Would you waste it on Core or make someone's life better? People are leaving because of this unfair price. I hope you take that into consideration.

Secondly, and I know this may seem a bit vain or perhaps insignificant, but the new logo is ugly. It really is just ugly. Not unique at all, either. I heard someone say this, and I agree with it: the Core logo is a copy of Roblox player points and the Converse logo. If you want to change the lovely green star to something else, could you please at least design it with your own skill and talent? Maintaining a pleasing visual is a vital part of any site. People unconsciously react to the appearance of things. If they see a site that isn't meeting their aesthetic standards, who's going to join? And who's going to stay?

And third, the originality and special aura of deviantART is starting to collapse. I've read your many journals about renovating the site, new changes, and what you call 'site simplifications'. Why change and 'simplify' something that doesn't need changing or simplifying? For the new members that find dA confusing, well, there's a Help and FAQ desk for a reason. Why don't you develop and refine that section of dA instead of renovating the whole site? It's unfair that you're doing this to us with no notice, and no chance to speak our thoughts. Not only are you stripping us of our pride in this site and our individuality from other art sites, you are also stripping us of our freedom. Our voice. Our social justice, our standing in this community. There are plenty of older, more experienced members that could help out the newer members. There is no need to completely turn dA upside down for the meagre population of deviants that are clueless. Add onto the FAQs instead of disrupting dA's peaceful and beautiful society! And if you truly feel the need to 'simplify' this site, please hold polls or some other means of letting us voice our opinions. Maybe this isn't tyranny or unfairness, and you believe you're improving this site. Have you seen the number of Anti-Core art, groups and stamps that have popped up all over the place? Are you looking at my icon, one which is shared by a number of deviants? Ever clicked on the many links to the petition being set up against Core, which has over 6,000 names signed up now? Premium was something to be proud of, something to cherish, but now it has turned into a cold, disgusting shell of its former self.

Please. If you hear my voice echoing in the presence of thousands of other pleas, listen to my words. We want you to change dA back. Or, if you are unable to oblige to this, then could you please at least stop adding and changing more of our lovely site? deviantART is slowly turning into just 'art'; a cold, unfamiliar place. Just another worthless art site among hundreds of others.

Thank you for reading.

Yours truly,
korasky
